Peter Crouch has admitted that he is surprised that Roberto De Zerbi does not look set to become the next Tottenham Hotspur manager.
Fabrizio Romano had made a claim in April that while there was a £13 million release clause in the highly-rated coach’s contract, he was happy at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Despite this, Peter Crouch is taken aback by how Roberto De Zerbi does not look any closer to becoming the Tottenham Hotspur manager.
Peter Crouch has his say on Roberto De Zerbi & the Tottenham manager links
The Italian has become the neutral’s favourite tactician, leading Brighton to a Europa League spot whilst playing a gorgeous brand of football.
Branded as a ‘crazy’ as well as a ‘genius’ by Maximo Gomez via So Foot, who played with the 43-year-old at Sassuolo, it seems like those that work with him realise how special of a coach he truly is.
While Tottenham may well do so as well, Peter Crouch admits his surprise at Roberto De Zerbi not being dead set to become the manager of his former club.
“It’s a really difficult one. They’ve had so many people in the running and then ruling themselves out, it’s become a little bit of an embarrassment to Tottenham.”
‘When you think of how big the club is and the training facilities, the ground, the players and no one seems to want it. There are some good candidates left. I would have thought it would be Roberto De Zerbi myself”, he said on BT Sport.
De Zerbi has no reason to join Spurs
While Peter Crouch may perhaps be surprised that Tottenham have been unable to tempt Roberto De Zerbi to become their manager, there is simply no aspect about the job that would attract him.
Spurs are not even playing in Europe, while Brighton are, lack a sporting director, recruit rather poorly and Harry Kane could leave in the summer.
On the other hand, the Seagulls have one of the most exciting projects in European football, which makes his decision quite easy at the end of the day.
